A Method to Simulate the Migration and Accumulation of Hydrocarbon with Analogue Modeling

Subsurface migration and accumulation of oil gas have interested researchers for a long time, but these processes may occur over very geological periods are difficult to observe directly, so experimental simulations warranted. In this study, an method was developed model hydrocarbon in the subsurface structure. Oil simulated sandbox model, industrial CT scanning used both internal geometry pathways. NaI solution simulate water, white hydrocarbon, fine quartz sand, glass bead, silica powder, brown corundum were chosen represent brittle crust, based on suitable material parameters. A NaI-saturated layered constructed with along-strike basal discontinuity, which during compression allowed simple anticline doubly verging reverse faults form. then released continuously at low rate from orifice under one limb anticline. Initially, migrated vertically through fault zone until it reached top zone; laterally along core anticline, saturating reservoir by buoyancy capillary force. This analog helps explain within Anjihai Santai anticlines northwest China.
